Greenyard‘s subsidiary Bakker Belgium will become Belgian supermarket chain Delhaize‘s dedicated provider for fresh fruit and vegetables. It will invest in a brand new location in Belgium.
Vertical integration
The new, dedicated location should be fully operational next year. Bakker’s ambitions are big: “We will be more than a supplier to Delhaize”, general manager Adrie Bakker states in a press release: “Our aim is to add value. Using our expertise in sustainable supply chain management, we will be a partner for Both Delhaize and the Delhaize suppliers’ network.”
The agreement will lead to more sales of fruit and vegetables in Belgium, leading to a higher expected turnover. It is a welcome bit of good news for Greenyard, that has suffered quite a few disappointments of late. It is the third significant deal for the Belgian company this year, after earlier agreements with Carrefour and Tesco.
