Supermarket chain Spar will become the “first international retailer” to enter Belarus. It intends to open about sixty stores by 2020, in a collaboration with the Almi Group.

The Almi Group already manages 43 stores in Belarus, through its Almi and Zakrama brands. It will now add Spar, with a first store in the capital, Minsk. The 370 sqm store heavily focuses on fresh food. Almi intends to open about sixty stores in the next few years, in cities like Minsk, Grodno, Gomel and Brest.
“We are ravished about our collaboration with Almo Group to launch Spar in Belarus. Our teams have worked closely together to transfer our well-known Spar Retail formula to this country. We are convinced that the Almi Group shares Spar’s values (fresh, high quality and excellent customer service), just like our other partners across the world do”, Spar International CEO, Tobias Wasmuht, said.
Spar entered Cyprus at the start of last month, where it intends to open twenty stores over the next five years. In May, it opened its first Ukrainian store, where it hopes to reach fifty supermarkets. The Dutch company currently operates more than 12,500 stores in 46 countries and generates a 33.1 billion euro turnover.
