According to Bloomberg news agency, Uber is conducting exploratory talks with meal delivery company Deliveroo. Should it indeed come to an acquisition, then it would be a billion-dollar deal.
Dominant player
An acquisition of Deliveroo by taxi service Uber – which also delivers meals under the name Uber Eats – would lead to a very dominant player on the food delivery market in Europe. But there would also be a hefty price tag attached to it, because Deliveroo is currently valued at 2 billion dollars (1.7 billion euros) and a takeover bid should be significantly higher.
For Uber, which is planning an IPO next year, the food delivery sector is a top priority. The company is also considering other acquisitions, including taxi service Careem in the Middle East. The takeover of Deliveroo, however, is far from certain. Until now, Deliveroo and its investors have not been inclined to give up their independence. The company, headquartered in London, operates in more than 200 cities on four continents.
