A year later than planned, the first Harry Potter store, located in the heart of New York, has opened its doors. The first pictures look – well – magical.
Discover and experience
The Harry Potter Experience store is nearly 2,000 sq m and houses the biggest collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts products worldwide. The store, which stretches over three floors, is built around fifteen different themes, all bringing the magic of the wizarding world to life.
Upon entering the store, customers pass under a massive display of Felix the Phoenix gazing down from the ceiling. The impressive figure weighs more than 110 kg and is just one of the many detailed, handmade props designed to amaze customers. In total, there are more than a thousand decorative items on display in the store, writes RetailTrends. Among them are also authentic items used in the films.
Several digital technologies have also been integrated into the store. For example, visitors will be able to find ‘enchanted keys’ via the Harry Potter fan club app, with which they can unlock videos, for instance. Furthermore, visitors can also play two VR games: ‘Chaos at Hogwarts’ and ‘Wizards Take Flight’.
The opening was supposed to take place in 2020, but the Covid outbreak in the Big Apple made that impossible.
