The collaboration between Dutch chains Jumbo and Hema, which they had already announced in November last year, started this morning with a festive ceremony in the Jumbo Food Market in Breda. Other stores in the Netherlands and Belgium will follow soon.
First step
Part of Hema’s range is now for sale at the Jumbo Foodmarkt (the largest concept of the Dutch supermarket chain) in Breda and Tilburg. The festive unveiling of the first Hema corner in a Jumbo was done by Frits van Eerd and Tjeerd Jegen, the CEOs of both companies. In the coming months, the Hema range will gradually be introduced in the other Jumbo stores in the Netherlands and Belgium. From the summer onwards, the articles will also be made available in the Jumbo webshop.
The collaboration was announced in November last year. Both companies have complementary offerings and felt they can strengthen their market position this way. Furthermore, the supermarket chain will take over leases of seventeen Hema stores (fifteen Dutch, two Belgian), especially in city centre locations. In addition, both partners are also planning the development of a joint retail concept at six locations in railway stations. Hema has also become co-sponsor of the cycling and skating teams of Team Jumbo Visma.
