Dutch discount chain Wibra aims to open two new stores per week in the next few months, including in former Blokker stores.
To 350 stores
The surge in new stores, from February to May, will allow Wibra to grow from 300 to 350 shops. In the coming months, shops will be added in Breda, Boxtel, Dordrecht, Gouda, Groningen, Haarlem, Heerhugowaard, Lisse, Muiden and Urk, among others. In Belgium, the chain will open additional stores in Antwerp, Bertrix and Bilzen, among others.
In a press release, the retailer says it also aims to continue expanding in the second half of the year. “We are continuously working to optimise our store portfolio”, says CEO Bas Duijsens. “By carefully researching suitable locations, we are further expanding our store portfolio.”
Many of the new Dutch stores will come in former Blokker locations, where Wibra wants to keep the (former) employees. In addition, the chain continues to invest in the renovation of existing shops: around a hundred branches will be given a fresh look this year.
