Cosmetics group Estée Lauder has announced that hackers have penetrated its systems and stolen an unnamed quantity of data. Parts of the company are down.
Operations disrupted
During the cyber attack, hackers gained access to some of the company’s systems. When the attack became apparent, the company proactively disabled certain systems and launched an investigation with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies. Nevertheless, the cosmetics group is already certain that “the unauthorised party obtained certain data from its systems”.
The exact extent of the damage is not yet known. Estée Lauder says the incident has caused disruption to parts of its operations and is expected to continue to do so. The group is also trying to determine the nature and extent of the stolen data. In the meantime, measures are being put in place to protect the company against another attack.
