Unilever acquired South American company Quala’s care product range to its own portfolio. Similarly to Unilever, Quala has food brands, which will become its new focus.
Strenghten South American position
Thanks to this purchase, for an undisclosed fee, Unilever now owns Fortident (tooth care), Bio-Expert (hair care) and Savital/Savilé (hair and skin care), brands to generated a 360 million euro turnover last year. They are almost exclusively available in South and Central America.
Unilever’s South American position, especially in Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador, has improved a lot thanks to Quala. Savital/Savilé is Combia’s largest hair care brand, while Fortident is Colombia and Ecuador’s second largest mouth care brand.
“The acquisition of Quala’s personal care and homecare business reinforces Unilever’s commitment to our long-term model of compounding growth and sustainable value creation. The active management of the portfolio through bolt-on acquisitions such as this one, and the sustained investment in our existing brands, will help us deliver continued growth ahead of our markets”, CEO Paul Polman said.
