Motorola has announced it will implement Amazon‘s voice assistant, Alexa, in a number of its smartphones. The company also said it would add Alexa to nearly all of its devices in the future.
Alexa in increasing number of devices
Alexa-powered Motorola devices should hit the market later this year. Not only smartphones will get Amazon’s technology, as the American company will also add it to some of its peripherals.
Motorola is not the first smartphone company to work with Amazon and Alexa: Chinese giant Huawei already announced it would include Alexa in one of its devices. An increasing number of manufacturers seem to flock to Amazon for a voice assistant.
At war with Google
Amazon is not the only one trying to expand the reach of its voice assistant, because its competitor Google is also working on its Google Assistant. Originally, the assistant was only included in its own devices, but it now tries to entice others to include Google Assistant in the new range of Android-powered devices. Both Google and Amazon have been waging war to gain market share in the voice assistant industry. Only recently, Google added shopping to Google Home, adding another front in its fight against Amazon.
Amazon’s approach is somewhat different, relying on third party developers to rapidly increase Alexa’s functionality. Because of this, its voice assistant has spread to a wide range of devices, including refrigerators.
