Apple once again sold fewer iPads and iPhones in the second quarter of its fiscal year, but despite that, the American technology company increased its turnover and profit results.
Increased Mac sales
The second quarter iPhone sales slump was relatively small, down 1 % to 50.8 million devices, but iPad sales fell 13 % to 8.9 million devices. Mac sales grew 4 % to 4.2 million devices.
Apple’s turnover grew 5 % to 52.9 billion dollars (48.5 billion euro). European turnover grew 10 %, but North and South American turnover did even better, up 11 %. Unfortunately for Apple, the increased competition from cheaper, local Chinese competitors and the strong dollar were detrimental to its Chinese turnover, down 14 %.
Traditionally, Apple’s third quarter is its weakest, because its product launches are geared towards the end of the year, with sales targeted on the holiday season. The iPhone will also celebrate its tenth anniversary this September and that will probably result in a new model, with several gimmicks to entice customers to buy a new one.
