By 2025, online will account for more than half of consumer electronics sales in Europe. Marketplaces increase their share, market growth comes mainly from second-hand – especially refurbished smartphones.
Growth for cross-border trade
The total consumer electronics market is expected to grow by 1.25 % a year in the coming years, from 202 billion euros today to 210 billion in 2025. Half of that turnover will come from the so-called “3C” product categories (computers, communications and consumer electronics), the rest from white goods and household appliances.
Online accounts for 90 billion euros in that market today, but that will rise 19 % to 107 billion next year – meaning that online will account for more than half of the total electronics market. 52 % of that online turnover, or 55.5 billion euros, is attributable to cross-border trade.
The figures come from a new study by Cross-Border Commerce Europe, a platform that aims to boost cross-border e-commerce in Europe.
