Tablet sales slow down
Analysts had expected a 5.3 % drop for this first quarter, but it was limited to 4.4 %, with 73.4 million computers sold. The discontinued support for Windows XP on 8 April has partially contributed to the better-than-expected numbers as a lot of people had to upgrade or buy a new computer. Especially many Japanese decided to buy a new computer these past few months.
Slower tablet sales resulted in a smaller sales drop for computers as well, but it is still the 8th quarter in a row that computer sales were down.
Lenovo is still the market leader in computer sales, with nearly 13 million units in 2014’s first quarter (+ 10.5 % compared to the year before). In total, Lenovo has a 17.7 % market share, with HP in second (17.1 %) and Dell in third (13.4 %).
