The global sales of computers is still in a downward spiral: for the seventh straight quarter, the worldwide computer sales were below that of last year’s level.
Apple takes a hit
According to Gartner’s numbers, 64.3 million computers were sold in the second quarter, down 5.2 % compared to the year before. Lenovo, HP and Dell are still the top three, but Lenovo suffered a slump compared to the year before – although it still gained market share. Apple, the world’s fifth largest computer seller, experienced a tremendous slump in sales.
Gartner’s analysts expect improvements in the future, but are still careful about their forecasts. They point to the dollar’s major impact in certain areas, which will boost prices a lot. However, because the second quarter slump was not as large as that of previous quarters, analysts forecast that the impact of the higher prices has almost subsided.
