More focus on merchandise and hardware
Consumers would no longer have to buy a boxed game with a disc, but only a voucher that can be used to get your game on a console or pc. It would basically mean that Game Mania would create a physical PlayStation Store, where vouchers can be created at the cash register, which can then be given to the customer.
“It is interesting for those people who do not have a credit card or prefer not to use it“, concept manager Tom Henderikx told Entertainment Business. The store is convinced the physical store will always remain relevant and that a purely digital store is not likely to arrive soon, if at all.
Second-hand games remain important
At the end of 2013, Game Mania has decided that it will focus more on merchandising and hardware, instead of only games. “You notice these sell particularly well when a new game releases. For example, a customer buys a Zelda game, notices a Zelda keychain and buys that one as well. We also sell more headsets”, Henderikx said.
Second-hand games remain very important to Game Mania as well: “I think it would be incredibly diffiult to successfully run a store-focused company without second-hand games. Besides, it is something the customer wants”, according to Henderikx.
