Kodak, a former giant in photography that almost perished in the digital revolution, is set to launch a smartphone that is focused (obviously) on the camera, in a move to regain customers who have largely left cameras for smartphones.
Produced by Bullitt
The Ektra smartphone has a 21 megapixel camera and several other features normally only found on a photo camera, like a physical dial to alter the camera’s settings. The Ektra also resembles a camera more than it does a smartphone.
It remains to be seen whether Kodak can entice photographers to buy its smartphone, because brands like Apple and Samsung also have high quality cameras in their more expensive product range.
Besides, the Ektra is not produced by Kodak, but by Bullitt, a reprisal of the Kodak IM5 smartphone collaboration. The Ektra should launch later this year, for 499 euro.
