MediaMarkt is expanding its Marketplace to Belgium: in the first phase, fifty partners will sell around 50,000 products on the platform that are not available in the chain’s Belgian stores.
Increase online sales
With the marketplace, the electronics retailer wants to increase its product range available online – and generate a larger share of its turnover from online. Sales partners are selected thoroughly and must meet high quality standards. Shoppers can currently find an offering of electronics, fitness and e-mobility with products from partners such as Ecovacs, Imoshion, Insta360, Laifen, Lifegoods, Medisana, Ninja and Philips Hue. This range will soon be expanded to include other categories, such as beauty and garden products.
“We have high expectations for this platform, especially because we are really doing something different from the existing platforms and selecting our partners based on quality and linking this to a high standard of service”, MediaMarkt Benelux CEO Remko Rijnders explains. “We see that the Marketplace in the Netherlands that we launched a year ago is already very successful, just like in the other European countries where we are already active with the platform” – such as Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain.
Improving the shopping experience
At the same time, the retailer is also launching a “Space as a Service” service: external companies are given the opportunity to temporarily sell their products in one of the physical stores. This service applies not only to marketplace partners, but also to existing and new suppliers, including those from outside the electronics industry.
By constantly changing the use for specific zones in the store – in the form of shop-in-shops, promotional expressions, experience zones and events – MediaMarkt wants to improve the customer experience.
