Sony outperforms Microsoft
by a million
Chief of marketing for Xbox Yusuf Mehdi talks about 3 million Xbox Ones sold, despite only being available in thirteen
countries. “Demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the
holidays at most retailers worldwide. […] We are continuing to work hard to
deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible”, Mehdi said.
Belgium and the Netherlands are both still waiting for their official Xbox One
launch.
Sony sold 4.2 million PlayStation 4-consoles up until 28 December
2013, which
surpassed previous expectations. Sony had targetted 3 million copies by the end
of the year, with 5 million by March 2014. This goal should be reached easily,
as the console still needs to launch in Japan, its home market.
Sony also sold 9.7 million PlayStation 4-games, while the number of
PlayStation Plus subscribers grew 90 %. PlayStation Plus is a subscription
service enabling the use of online play in PS4 games.
