Expansion
to the West coast
Aldi is
currently present in 32 American states, but the most of the 1,200 discount shops
are between Kansas and the East Coast. Now the chain clearly wants to go west: by 2015 Aldi wants a hundred locations on the West Coast. Each year the chain
opens between 50 and 80 new shops in the US.
The opening
of a new regional headquarters will directly create 200 new jobs by next year – not including
the hundreds of new jobs at logistics providers who will
be working for Aldi. To get Aldi to invest in Moreno Valley, the discounter
will get a discount of 20% on all public utilities for 18 years.
The
national headquarters of Aldi in the United States is located in Batavia, Illinois, where the chain opened its first American store in 1976.
