Offline to supplement online
The new concept offers
products consumers want to see before buying them, which are therefore not popular on the chain’s online store. As such the store is a perfect addition
to the rising sales over the internet. For now Auchan has
no plans for more Arcimbo stores, but there seems to be a market for the idea:
according to SymphonyIRI,
fresh produce amounted to sales of 23 billion euro in 2012 with French food
distributors: 17.5% of their total sales.
At the same location as Arcimbo – whose name is a reference to Italian
painter Guiseppe Arcimboldo, who painted human portraits based on fruit and
vegetables – Auchan also has a drive-through and a branch of its online store GrossBill, which sells
technology products.
