One of the guardians of bankrupted sports store chain Primo recently announced that Sports Direct wants to acquire Primo’s stores. The British chain is already active in this region, with 41 stores in Belgium and 2 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
“Principal agreement”
“We have a principal agreement with a buyer, Sports Direct. We have not signed a contract yet, but we are only talking to that one company. We want to continue as many stores as possible”, guardian Jan De Rieck said.
Early March, Primo was dragged down by the bankruptcy of its Dutch parent company USG Group. Its 26 stores in Belgium and Luxembourg employ about 100 people, who are now waiting to see the outcome.
Previously, its Dutch affiliate chains Aktiesport and Perry Sport were already sold to British JD Sports Fashion, provided the Dutch antitrust authority approves the deal. JD Sports Fashion expressed no interest in the Primo stores however.
