Gap is to permanently close all 81 stores in the UK and Ireland. The American fashion brand will remain active online.
Phased closure
It was announced earlier That Gap was working on a European exit, but now more details are known. The American fashion giant will close all its British stores, 81 in total, in a phased manner between the end of August and the end of September. The company also said that it will not leave the British market, but will remain present via a webshop.
It is not known exactly how many jobs will be lost. The BBC writes that a consultation procedure with the staff will start soon.
Both in France and in Italy, negotiations are ongoing with potential buyers of the stores. In France, Gap has about twenty stores, in Italy 13.
