Fashion chain C&A is launching a “Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold” t-shirt collection in June. These can be entirely recycled or reused and C&A says the shirts can even be thrown on the compost heap.
Next phase in sustainability strategy
“We are very proud that we will launch our first Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold shirts, designed with nature as a source of inspiration and with the goal to give them a second lease on life. They can be used again or recycled or if you take it literally: you can throw them on the compost pile”, C&A Director of Brand Womenswear Collections and Denim, You Nguyen, said. The collection consists of two models in seventeen different colours, priced between 7 and 9 euros.
C&A, already one of the largest sustainable bio cotton sellers worldwide, considers this collection as a next logical step in its sustainability strategy. Available from 1 June in nineteen European countries and its web shop, C&A says it is the first retailer worldwide to launch a Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold collection, entirely made from biological cotton.
Fashion for Good
The new shirts were developed alongside Fashion For Good, an organization that brings together manufacturers, retailers, non-profits, innovators and financial backers in an attempt to create a more sustainable clothing industry.
C&A is not the first company to trial cradle-to-cradle clothing, as JBC already launched a collection with recycleable clothing.
