In the autumn, C&A will open its Factory for Innovation in Textiles (FIT) in Mönchengladbach, where the retailer wants to develop and produce the next generation of sustainable fashion using the latest technologies.

C&A is cooperating with various German universities and start-up companies in order to put this into practice. “We are delighted to be producing in the heart of Europe again,” says Giny Boer, CEO of C&A Europe. “C&A’s FIT combines the digitalisation of processes with sustainability and creates new standards for global production.”
Initially, FIT will focus on jeans. At the start, about 400,000 pairs of jeans will be produced per year, with that number doubling in time. The first jeans should be available next year. “C&A’s FIT will be more than just a lab for prototypes. It’s about producing in larger quantities. Sustainable fashion cannot just be a niche product,” says Boer.
