Fashion chain C&A will sell thirteen of its 160 French stores. The locations and the staff will all transfer to French fashion chain Chaussea and Stokomani.
First Spain, now France
C&A will decrease its French store network, but no jobs will be lost in this restructuring plan. Not only will the locations be sold, its staff (about one hundred people strong) will also transfer to the new owners, French fashion chains Chaussea (ten locations) and Stokomani (three locations).
The move is part of a restructuring plan initiated by C&A to counter the increased competition from both other stores and the online world. C&A shut down 23 stores in Spain earlier this year, allegedly in order to invest more in the profitable stores. More than 300 people lost their jobs.
C&A has been in France since 1972. Germany is still the company’s most important market, from the eighteen European markets in which it is active.
