Crespo (pictured) is currently chief operations officer, and in a press release Isla emphasises that Crespo has done an excellent job as COO in several areas of the company. Isla also said Crespo’s contribution as CEO will be vital at a time characterised by Inditex’ “strategic digital transformation and far-reaching commitment to sustainability”.
In his new role, Crespo will be responsible for technology (systems, data and digital), IT security, logistics and transport, construction and operations, legal affairs, procurement and sustainability. He will continue to work with Isla, who continues as chairman, to determine the overall business strategy. Crespo (48) started his career at Inditex in 2001 and became an internal auditor four years later. He was appointed COO last year, a position that he will hold until his appointment as CEO becomes definitive in July.
The Spanish group has been working on a digital transformation plan for several years, whereby all its brands should be available online in 2020 worldwide. In addition to Zara, Inditex’ portfolio also includes Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear and Stradivarius.
