In line with the current times, favouring second-hand shops and platform business models, a Belgian entrepreneur has decided to bring Danish “kids’ flea market chain” Børneloppen to her own country.
Rent store space
In Denmark, the Børneloppen’s concept is already familiar: the franchise chain is a bit like a permanent flea market or second-hand fair for kids’ stuff. The franchisers provide a suitable location and staff, but the products in the store are provided by the general public that can rent a stall in the store.
This way, people looking to sell their used items do not have to be present the whole time (as is the case in a fair or flea market): they are free to decide the selling prices and set up their own stall, but then store staff takes over. Adding to just being a point of sale, Børneloppen wants to be a meeting place for parents and families, who can eat something and let their children play inside the store.
The first Børneloppen in Belgium opens on 12 June in Fléron, near Liège. It is only the second foreign store for the Danish chain, following one in Iceland. If all goes well, entrepreneur Cassandre Jouret wants to open four or five stores in Belgium in the next two years.
