Social rest
After strikes at the Belgian distribution centres and the stores on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, employees and Delhaize’s board decided to have a conciliatory meeting yesterday. The board will now launch a new proposal “taking into account the workers’ fears and the enterprise’s challenges”, newspaper De Standaard wrote.
Christian labour union ACV state that the strikes have had their effect and that the board has decided to help to ease the situation. According to the union, the previous agreement was so bad that there was not a lot of leeway for discussions.
New talks will take place on 5 November, with additional talks on 12 and 20 November. Labour unions have promised to withhold strikes until the talks have taken place.
