20 to 25 stores
In a few years’ time, Dunkin’ Donuts wants to have 20 to 25 stores in Dutch urban areas, but the first step is to open restaurants in Amsterdam and to go on from there. The Dutch stores should become part of a larger European growth of the American brand.
Up until 2000, Dunkin’ Donuts was present in the Netherlands, but it then closed its five stores and production center after it could not find a new investor and had to deal with high costs. The American chain, backed by good results in other European countries, now seeks a comeback.
Currently, the chain sells donuts, coffee, bagels and muffins in nearly 11,000 stores in 33 countries. Its European activities are in Bulgaria, Germany, Russia and Spain, but through a series of webinars, it hopes to find franchisees in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Austria, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
