Shop-in-shops
Before it expands across Europe however, the company will take care of its Belgian expansion. The Foodmaker at the Guldenvlieslaan in Brussels is currently the only one in Belgium which has been remodeled to its new formula, but the company intends to add another six in the upcoming six months. Once that has been achieved, CEO Lieven Vanlommel wants to head into Europe.
Vanlommel believes countries like France, the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden are good options for expansion. The company will not only consider opening its own restaurants in these countries, but also has shop-in-shops in mind. To that purpose, it has collaborations with Kinepolis and an international hotel chain lined up.
Starmeal, mostly known as a healthy meal supplier for supermarkets, has been Foodmaker’s co-owner for quite a while, but acquired all shares back in December. It quickly started to remodel Foodmaker’s formula, with an increased focus on hand-made meals, sustainable packaging and the restaurant chain’s interior design.
