H&M Group has announced it will terminate its Monki chain. Almost all of its shops will close, the few others will be turned into Weekday stores. The two brands will also merge online.
“Youth destination”
After the closure of Monki’s headquarters last year, H&M Group is taking the next step in merging the brand with Weekday. Almost all of Monki’s shops are now to close as well: a “limited number” of existing branches will be transformed into Weekday shops, but the rest will close.
Weekday will become the “youth destination” within H&M Group, even though that formula has fewer – but often larger – shops than its sister chain. Monki currently has 56 shops in fifteen countries, while Weekday has 47 in fourteen markets.
