Increasing losses for Match
French magazine Linéaires has a compiled list of the supermarkets which will be forced to close: Montbéliard, Colmar, Mulhouze Stoessel, Sarre-Union, Obernai, Forbach-Est, Freyming-Merlebach, Ligny-en-Barrois, Verdun, Reims and Vitry-le-François – all in the North-East of France.
There are no other alternatives for these 11 stores, which have been losing money for a few years now. After the eleven store closures, Match will be left with 129 stores. According to Linéaires, “Match will publish a 1.065 billion euro turnover for 2014, while 2013 and 2012 have shown that losses are increasing – with a 29 million loss in 2013 (- 2.4 %).”
Cora and Match, two of Louis Delhaize‘s brands in France, only have a 3.3 % market share according to research company Kantar. Both brands signed a deal with Carrefour to join a purchase alliance, which became active on 1 January 2015.
