Independent audits
Cages will have to adhere to minimum sizes so that animals have ample space, while Nestlé will also strive to minimize pain. All animals have to be sedated before painful procedures are carried out: Several countries already have a sedation rule, but that is not the case everywhere.
Nestlé has also appointed an independent supervisor, who will have to check whether the new guidelines are being followed. There will be unannounced World Animal Protection checks to assure that everything is in order. When things go awry, Nestlé will collaborate with that particular company to remedy the situation. If that is not possible or if the supplier refuses to change, then its collaboration with Nestlé will be terminated.
