American fashion chain Nordstrom is to trial a new store formula in Los Angeles next month, in which customers will only be able to get advice and try out clothing. Purchases can be picked up at the store at a later date.

The store will only house clothing for people to try in one of the eight fitting rooms. Employees will place orders at one of the nearby nine stores in the region, or online. The customer will then be able to pick up their order at a later date. If the order is placed before 14h, the pick-up will be scheduled later that day.
The eight fitting rooms circle the store’s central area, where customers can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer as they engage their personal stylist. They will need to schedule an appointment, but otherwise the store is freely accessible.
Nordstrom will also launch the Style Boards app, enabling sellers and stylists to offer recommendations to the customers. Users can also talk to the store staff or stylists through the app, even if they are not in the store themselves.
