In 2024, the Designer Outlets in Roermond and Roosendaal in the south of the Netherlands, both part of McArthurGlen, experienced a record year. Roosendaal will add some 6,000 square metres of retail space in the future.
Retailtainment as a strategy
Designer Outlet Roermond, the best-performing centre within the McArthurGlen portfolio, saw sales increase by 8.5% compared to 2023. Thanks in part to the opening of 10 new shops, including Alexander McQueen, Tory Burch and Jil Sander, there were 21 million transactions, representing a 7.7% increase.
The outlet centre in Roosendaal, in turn, was the fastest grower in the portfolio, accounting for a 13.5% increase in sales and a 10% growth in visitors to over 2.1 million. Six new brands were introduced here, including Lacoste and Michael Kors. Roosendaal is additionally planning a 6,000-square-metre retail space extension.
In line with what McArthurGlen calls its retailtainment strategy, both centres also emphasised collaboration with local entertainment partners, such as nearby amusement park the Efteling and Belgian media group Studio100. The opening of Europe’s largest Nike store, and a direct connection to major cities in Germany and Belgium via Flixbus, should further enhance the shopping experience in 2025.
