Rodenstock, a German group best known for its Porsche glasses, is selling its eyewear division to Italian group De Rigo, one of the leading optics retailers in Europe.
Branded glasses
Rodenstock manufactures eyewear frames under the eponymous brand names and as Porsche, but the German group now wants to focus on lens production to become a leading Med-Tech company in the eye care sector. The company is therefore selling its eyewear division to Italian family-owned group De Rigo, which commercialises branded eyewear under numerous licences, including Chopard, Gap, Nina Ricci, Philipp Plein and Zadig&Voltaire.
De Rigo is also a significant retailer in the European optical sector: it owns the chains General Optica in Spain, Mais Optica in Portugal, Opmar Optik in Turkey and Boots Opticians in the United Kingdom.
