Zara is expanding its Pre-Owned platform to fourteen additional European countries on 12 December. Among the fourteen are the Benelux countries, as well as major markets Germany, Spain and Italy.
Platform model
Like many other fashion retailers, Zara is betting on the growing second-hand market, launching its Pre-Owned service that allows consumers to sell or donate clothing, or to have it repaired. The fashion retailer already launched the service last year on the British market, as well as in France last September. Now fourteen additional countries will follow: besides Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, they are Austria, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
Zara Pre-Owned operates on a platform model: consumers upload photos of Zara items to be sold, and send the pieces themselves when a buyer signs up. The retailer links additional information about the clothing to the photos. Customers can also have clothing – only from Zara – repaired or donated to the Red Cross.
