American shoe brand Skechers completed the fourth phase of its European distribution center expansion. Located in Liège, the distribution center is now 98,500 sqm, up a third.
Meet increased demand
Skechers invested a lot into its infrastructure to meet the increased demand: it shipped a record 3 million pairs of shoes in February, totaling 8.1 million pairs in the first quarter.
“With the completion of our European Distribution Center expansion and with the automation to be fully completed later this year, we expect to be even more efficient in our largest market outside of the United States and prepared for continued growth in Europe”, David Weinberg, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Skechers, said.
Over the past few years, Skechers has been focusing on expansion. It has recently entered the Belgian market with a few stores: the first opened in April (in the Wijnegem Shopping Center). In total, it aims to have 15 stores in the Benelux. Globally, it has more than 1,340 stores, generating a 3 billion dollar (2.7 billion euro) revenue stream.
