All apps will be accepted
Subway has a deal with Softcard, a joint venture from America’s 4 largest mobile operators, to supply all stores with the appropriate equipment in order to enable smartphone payments.
The company has already confirmed that all NFC apps (like Google Wallet, PayPal and the soon-to-launch Apple Pay) will be accepted. There has been a Softcard pilot program in Subway’s Salt Lake City restaurant and the company has now decided to expand it to the entire country.
When Apple CEO Tim Cook announced Apple Pay last week, he said some 220,000 American stores would be using it and Subway’s 26,000 stores now add another 10 % to that.
