Tanger Markt has opened four stores in the Netherlands and one (Antwerp) in Belgium in the past 5 years, and now owner Ahmed Barghaoul plans stores in Utrecht, Den Haag and a second one in Amsterdam, along wih stores abroad. He aims to get a 100 million euro yearly turnover, without investor support as “you quickly become addicted to debt”, he explains in Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant.
The supermarket chain is known for its oriental array of products and low prices. It buys its meat, chicken, vegetables, fruit, dairy and non-food at the supplier whenever possible, to lower costs.
