“Not in pedestrian areas”
Albert Heijn launched its AH to go formula in Germany two years ago and opened stores in several locations to check where it could become successful. “Our formula does not catch on in pedestrian areas”, Matthias Gehle, who runs Albert Heijn Germany, said. The two stores in such a location, Aachen and Essen, will close as a result of the decision.
The four other stores will stay, while Albert Heijn has plans for three additional stores in Germany. It is apparently talking to several gas stations to open the stores at such a location.
