Vinted, Europe’s largest online marketplace for second-hand fashion goods, acquires its Dutch competitor United Wardrobe. The acquisition strengthens the company’s European market leadership.
34 million users
United Wardrobe is the largest second-hand fashion platform in the Netherlands. With the takeover, Vinted gets an additional 4 million users in one fell swoop. Together they have a community of 34 million buyers and sellers in 11 European countries. In Belgium, Vinted has more than 1 million members.
As of this week the integration of both platforms will start, whereby United Wardrobe members will be asked to switch to the more international Vinted. This will allow them to buy and sell on one combined market place.
Accelerating growth
The top executives of United Wardrobe – CEO Sjuul Berden, COO Maud Behaghel and CTO Thijs Slijkhuis – will take a leading role at Vinted and will be responsible for the faster expansion into new markets. Thomas Plantenga, CEO of Vinted since 2016 and driving force behind the rapid growth, will continue to lead the company.
“Vinted and United Wardrobe can grow faster together, double the rate of expansion into new markets and deliver a unique product to our European community. The Netherlands has a strong and active community of second-hand fashion enthusiasts and we are pleased to strengthen our presence in this market,” said Plantenga.
