Low wages cost state a lot
Huffington Post had calculated
that regular Walmart employees earn less than 25,000 dollars per year (18.500
euro), while a study in May demonstrated thatWalmart’s low wages cost the American state 900,000 dollars (667.000 euro) a year, as employees need to use food stamps.
Customers have already expressed their disgust concerning Walmart’s food
drive, but Forbes does not believe the chain will suffer because of it. “History
has shown again and again when it comes down to it, most customers are not going to change their behaviour or preferences,”
Stone Street Advisors’s Jordan Terry mentions.
Some
employees are also threatening to strike during Black Friday, as
Walmart allegedly illegally fired 117 employees for going on strike. Walmart
does not see anything wrong with the current situation. “This particular store
has been doing this for years and it is being done for employees who have faced
extreme hardships,” spokesperson Kory Lundberg told Business Insider.
