Spanish fashion chain Zara will launch a sustainable Join Life collection for the fall. The collection is made from sustainable materials, but the company has also tried to make the supply chain as sustainable as possible.
More renewable energy
Several sustainable materials, such as the bamboo-based Tencel, were used to create the collection. Even the boxes used to ship the clothing are made of recycled cardboard while the labels are made of recycled paper.
The company’s website even runs on renewable energy for 84 % of its power usage according to Zara itself. The goal is to have renewable energy power both the offices and website for 100 % by 2018.
For a while now, Zara has been trying to make its stores more sustainable: the energy output and water usage of its newest store in Brussels, which opened last year, dropped by respectively 30 and 50 % compared to its usual stores. Ever since, Zara has used that template in its other stores as well.
