Fashion company Zara has upset quite a few people with its newest marketing campaign, focused on “curves”. The campaign has the tagline “Love your curves”, but the two women displayed barely have any.
“Misleading ad”
Irish radio host Muireann O’Connell was the first to speak out, sharing a picture of the company’s campaign and wondering whether Zara was actually serious about the content. The picture spread like wildfire on social media and the comments were not exactly beneficial to Zara. Some wondered whether it was a joke, while others feared Zara does not really understand what curves really are.
The indignation also points a potentially dangerous consequence: young girls could feel too conscious about their own body after seeing Zara label these slender women as curvy. “This is a misleading ad”, someone said on social media. No one is targeting the actual women portrayed in the ad, because Zara is the one facing the wrath. The Spanish company has so far refused to comment on the issue.
