Belgian beer giant AB InBev is said to be eager to sell its German regional beer brands. A possible sale would certainly fit within its diversification strategy to more profitable drinks.
Less lager
Germany is the largest beer market in Europe, but still, Belgian newspaper De Tijd reports that AB InBev could be preparing a ‘Dexit’ and sell all regional brands. A Bloomberg report is said to identify brands like Beck’s, Diebels, Franziskaner Weissbier and Hasseröder, which could earn the world’s biggest brewing company a billion euros.
For the time being, the news has not been confirmed officially anywhere. To De Tijd, the brewery group only confirmed it would “continuously evaluate its possibilities to stimulate growth”.
Since Michel Doukeris took the helm at AB InBev, the company has been focusing more than ever on diversification and moving away from the classic lager market. This is reflected in the increased focus on low-calorie beers, hard seltzers and canned cocktails.
