Albert Heijn has reopened its supermarket in Pijnacker (near Rotterdam) with a new store concept, featuring a water tap and a connection with the chain’s app, which reveals the exact location of products in the aisles.
Fresh food central
The new store concept should be easy to use and put healthy and fresh food first, CEO Marit van Egmond says. “In this store, we offer our customers even more fresh products and convenience, with a central place for cheap, varied and healthier food – making better food accessible for everyone.”
The first novelties are clear from the entrance, which features a fresh meal stand with cut vegetables and sushi. More than fifty locally sourced products are gathered on a central place in the store, which also features a tap for water. The ‘shared dining’ concept is also expanded to a hundred other Albert Heijn stores.
A special mention goes to the way the app is connected to the new store, with the function “Find my product”. This shows the exact location of each specific product searched in the app. A further focus on selfscan and selfservice also opened up room for a wider product range. Some of that extra room has also been used for parcel lockers, a choice that will be rolled out to some 400 Albert Heijn stores by the end of the year.
