In the next 12 months, Aldi will invest 300 million pounds (350 million euro) in its own store network. It announced its intentions when it publishes its yearly results for the past year, when it managed a record turnover.
70 new stores
Aldi UK’s 2015 turnover reached 7.7 billion pounds (nearly 9 billion euro), up 12 % compared to the year before and a record for its UK operations. Operational profit dropped 1.8 % to 255.6 million pounds (295 million euro), a consequence of its major investments, the company said. Aldi will continue its hefty investments next year, in order to assure its continued growth.
The 300 million pound investment will be used to open 70 new stores and remodel another 100 stores. Aldi mentioned previously its goal is to have 1,000 stores across the United Kingdom by 2022 and is currently up to 785. Its 70 new stores will be based on a new store formula, developed thanks to a survey with more than 50,000 Aldi customers. As a result, major sections in the store will be reorganized.
