On the Spanish island of Mallorca, Aldi Nord has reached a small milestone: the discounter has just opened its five thousandth supermarket in Europe.
Big expansion plans
The new store – the 336th in Spain – is located in Cala Millor. The store opening is part of the discounter’s ambitious expansion plans in Spain: the chain wants to open more than 40 new supermarkets there this year, Spanish media report.
Aldi came to Mallorca in 2015 with six supermarkets. In 2019, the discounter expanded to Ibiza. With the new opening, the discounter now has a total of ten stores in the Balearic Islands.
