Starting today, Aldi (Nord and Süd together) is selling online video games in Germany. The date has been deliberately chosen, because it coincides with the opening of Europe’s largest gaming convention in Cologne.
Exclusive offers
The discounter’s web shop will offer games by more than 100 developers and studios, which should make Aldi one of the largest stores in that regard. It will sell games for every major platform, including PlayStation, Xbox, pc and Nintendo Switch.
Aldi says it will sell these games at “razor-sharp prices” and that it will have frequent exclusive offers in collaboration with developers. Games will not be sold physically, but only with a download code. The Aldi stores will also carry vouchers, with codes to download games.
Games are Aldi’s next step in its digital services. It previously launched its own music and listening book streaming service and eBooks are also available in its web shop. “With games, we can give customers everything, from music streaming, books (both reading and listening) and now games”, Aldi Süd’s Vittorio Rotondo said.
