Discounter Aldi is going to distribute its leaflets in Luxembourg via WhatsApp, as the country is taking measures to curb the publication of paper leaflets.
A message every Monday
Aldi Luxembourg has been promoting its digital leaflet for a while now, via QR codes on milk cartons, on bread bags and on the back of register slips. Now the discounter is taking a new step in the digitisation process: since last week, customers can also request the folder via messaging service WhatsApp, Paperjam reports. They will then receive a message every Monday with a link to the new folder. According to the retailer, this is a first for the Grand Duchy.
The discounter takes the step as Luxembourg has passed a waste law that requires consumers to explicitly state that they still want to receive door-to-door publications in their (physical) mailboxes. That measure goes into effect from 1 January 2024, causing retailers to prepare for this by digitising their leaflets and distributing them via their own websites and other mobile applications.
